Borough of Rocky Hill, New Jersey

   Licensing Dogs and Cats

All dogs and cats over six months of age are required to be licensed.

Why are licenses required by law?

Licensing is a way of assuring that Rabies vaccination have been given and are current. In order to be licensed, proof of a current Rabies vaccination must be presented. Licensing also provides a way of tracing a pet's owner, if it should get lost, injured or be involved in a biting incident.

When must dogs and cats be licensed?

Initially, all dogs and cats must be licensed within 10 days of turning seven months old. Most pet-owners apply for the license when the pet is six months old to avoid last minute problems. A newly acquired dog or cat who has already reached that age is required to be licensed within 10 days.

How long is the license valid?

The license is valid through the next April. Re-licensing is required annually no later than April 30th.

How do I apply for a license?

Fill in an application, available on the >Rocky Hill Main Website <  under "Forms" or at Borough Hall during office hours. Attach a copy of an official Rabies certificate (showing the expiration date) and, if spayed or neutered, a certificate indicating this from the veterinarian or agency that performed the surgery (to be eligible for a fee discount). Also attach the appropriate fee. The application can be mailed or hand delivered to the Borough office in Borough Hall. (Check the main website for hours and address).
